Fool Hearty

We've got another live show in the works! Fool Hearty is back — the arts pop-up that explores the human experience through Tarot. This time, in our second show on September 28 at Captain Quackenbush's, we're exploring The Wheel of Fortune… featuring storyteller and humorist Michelle Mirsky, poet Bianca Alyssa Pérez, a small ensemble of ukuleles led by Kevin Carroll, and three visual artists from local high schools. As each artist takes the stage, you'll experience a new perspective on The Wheel of Fortune — the card of fate, karma, destiny, and free will.

Myths, Memories, and Monsters: A Generative Workshop

Join our generative writing workshop exploring Latinx cultural mythology through fresh lenses of horror. Inspired by Beast Meridian (Vanessa Angélica Villarreal), Virgin (Analicia Sotelo), and Guillotine (Eduardo C. Corral), we’ll examine surreal imagery, mythic influences, and raw expression.

In a dedicated segment, we unpack Latinx horror folklore—discussing figures like El Chupacabra, El Nahual, Duendes, and La Llorona—and explore themes of loss, transformation, ancestral fear, and generational trauma. Through creative prompts, you’ll craft two pieces that weave these elements with your own lived experience, reimagining traditional tropes into innovative narratives.

Stephanie Nui's "Survived By: An Atlas of Disappearance" Book Launch

Host Publications is proud to celebrate the launch of Survived By: An Atlas of Disappearance by Stephanie Niu. Full of lament and wonder in equal measure, Niu’s poems are maps that guide us to a place of intimate attention where we can hold what is most vulnerable and tender on this planet, to better understand what has already been lost and what is currently at stake. These poems collect fragments of memory to shape an archive of things lost—from the fleeting raptures of childhood to the species nearing and beyond extinction.

Featured readers include: Stephanie Niu, cloud deflina cardona, and Bianca Alyssa Pérez. Hosted by editors Claire Bowman and Annar Veröld, audience members will have the chance to win chapbooks and an Alienated Majesty bookstore gift card. Free & open to all lovers of poetry.
